Past Chiefs of the Montgomery Fire Department
The Office of Chief, originally titled Chief Engineer, was established in Montgomery in the year 1860. Prior to 1860, the department was lead by a "Foreman". A Forman performed the same duties as a modern day Captain, with a few extra duties since there was no position of "Chief". Sadly, the devastating 1913 blaze that destroyed our fire station also destroyed all records of the department prior to 1913, including lists of Formen and Chiefs. It was by chance that a list was located that named our first five Chiefs prior to the fire, so there is a chance that this is the only record that survived the blaze.
